Nickel Alloys Alloy 400 Sheets Overview
Zeon Exports supplies Nickel Alloy 400 (Monel, UNS N04400) sheets and plates, a nickel-copper alloy with outstanding resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid and alkaline solutions for marine, oil & gas and chemical processing equipment.
Nickel Alloy 400 (Monel) Sheets & Plates are fabricated into tanks, vessels and marine hardware where standard stainless steels fall short. Its nickel-copper composition, with minimum 63% nickel plus cobalt and 28-34% copper, resists seawater, hydrofluoric acid, deaerated hydrochloric acid, alkaline solutions and steam across a wide temperature range.
- Minimum 63% nickel plus copper for outstanding seawater resistance
- Essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition
- EN 10204 3.1 certified, export-ready worldwide

Corrosion Resistance of Nickel Alloy 400 (Monel)
- Nickel Alloy 400 Sheets & Plates offer a corrosion profile distinct from stainless steels, built around resistance to reducing rather than oxidizing media.
- Seawater resistance: excellent resistance to seawater and marine atmospheres, widely used in shipbuilding and offshore hardware.
- Acid resistance: strong resistance to hydrofluoric acid and deaerated hydrochloric acid.
- Alkali resistance: performs well in caustic soda and other alkaline process streams.
Heat Resistance of Nickel Alloy 400 (Monel)
Nickel Alloy 400 sheets and plates maintain good mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to roughly 538°C (1,000°F). Strength decreases progressively above this range. Always confirm exact service limits against the governing standard and application before specifying.
Key Properties of Nickel Alloys Alloy 400 Sheets
Beyond corrosion and heat performance, Monel 400 sheets and plates offer these additional properties.
- Good weldability using ERNiCu-7 (Monel 60) matching filler metal
- Strengthened by cold working, not heat treatment
- Good machinability compared to other nickel alloys
- Good toughness maintained into cold service temperatures
